There are 32 clubs now functioning at Maine West. Heading the list are the Boys' and Girls' clubs. Every student automatically becomes a member of one of these. Several events during the school year are sponsored by these clubs, including the Christmas formal and the Girls' Choice dance.
Four foreign languages are represented in the list of clubs at West. They include the French, Latin, Spanish and German‑Russian clubs. Each sponsors some school event and offers several trips to its members.
Debate club is another of Maine West's popular activities. Members of this club travel to other schools and meet rival teams in a discussion concerning a single topic.
Two other popular clubs are the Stagecrafters, a theater organization which does backstage work on productions during the year, and the Mounted Mainites, a club for horse‑back riders.
For bowling enthusiasts, both a boys and a girls' league meet once a week throughout the winter.
Other clubs include ancient history, chess, Future Homemakers of America, baton, Future Nurses, Good Words, pep, rifle and photography.

Pep Club
The annual Kick‑off Dance, which will be held on October 5, is one of the two major projects being co‑sponsored by the Maine West and Maine pep clubs. It will be held in the cafeteria and multipurpose room at Maine.
The object of the pep club is to promote school spirit and this year many of the activities have been planned to accomplish this. These include pep rallies in the morning, a pep club cheering section, busses to away games, and the sale of refreshments at games.
The club also sponsors various sales projects throughout the year.
Pep club president Sue Raphael urges all students to come out and join. "Don't let a split in schools mean a split in spirit" emphasizes Sue. "Pep club is for everybody. It gives everyone a chance to come out and back their team and their pep club."
