Eleven Teams Start Interim Conference

The new Interim association begins existence this September. Both Maine schools will combine their talents for football and cross‑country and will compete in the West Suburban conference. With the start of the winter sports Maine West will play against the teams in the interim association. Maine East will continue to play in the West Suburban conference.

There will be twelve teams in this conference after 1960. At this time Maine West will become an official member of this association. Teams competing in the league this year include Proviso West, Wheaton, East Leyden, Glenbrook, Willowbrook, West Leyden, and Prospect. These seven teams will compete on both the varsity and frosh‑soph level. Competing only on the frosh‑soph level will be Glenbard East, Waukegan II, Morton West and Highland Park.

This is not going to be a permanent conference. In a few years, when all of the new schools in the area are built, they will set off all the new schools joining four new conferences with the Suburban and West Suburban leagues as the nucleus.

Maine East will not compete against Maine West at any time unless they happen to meet in state tournament play.

BULLETIN

The sports department of the WESTERNER, like the rest of the staff is working under a handicap in that the whole sports picture will be handled by only two writers. Therefore any help the students can give will be more than appreciated. This help could be in the form of letters expressing opinions of sports at Maine West, bits of information about the athletes, or leads which may be developed by the sports staff into important stories.
