To, Offer Merit Test In March

Juniors who are interested in scholarships for college should take the nationwide tests to be given by the National Merit Scholarship corporation on Tuesday, March 8, in the cafeteria. The winners of the tests will be awarded a scholarship to the college of his or her choice.

The test is open to all juniors at Maine West. Registration for the test will be $1 and must be paid in the bookstore by Friday, March 4.

"All juniors are urged to participate in the tests," advises Mr. J. J. Clouser, director of student activities, "not only because of the scholarships, but for the other benefits of knowing where you stand as an applicant for college. Students can also learn their weak and strong points in their course of study."

This test is based on a level with all the other students taking the test in the nation and the high scorers are considered semifinalists and must take elimination tests. High scoring students are then the winners.

Scholarship allowances range from $100 to $1,500 per year. The student may then choose any college and any course of study, but must meet college standards for grades.
