Managers Review Qualifications, Of Student Council Candidates

Andy Adolfson, candidate for the office of president of the student Council, believes that to have an effective and successful Student Council, the co‑operation and understanding of the entire student body is needed.

Explaining this he related, "One of the basic purposes of Student Council is to promote understanding among the student body, administration and council."

Andy began attaining his leadership abilities in eighth grade when he served as president of the Student Council of Orchard Place school. At Maine he was a member of Sophomore Class council and is at present on Student Council working on the organizations committee. He has been on the Honor roll, is a member of Physics club, sings in an extracurricular group called Choraliers, and has just recently received a Brotherhood award. He considers his experience as editor of the Junior Class paper and chairman of script committee for the Memory record invaluable to him.

Andy believes that, with cap. able leadership and co‑operation of the student body, council can accomplish great things next year. To quote him, "The foundation has been laid by this year's council. Now it is up to us to make the most of it by improving and adding to this foundation."

John Hanck, candidate for the Student Council presidency, states, "A Student Council can neither function properly without the support and assistance of the entire student body, nor can it effectively operate without the consent and support of the faculty and administration." With this thought in mind, John urges every student to participate actively in election week.

John's qualifications are numerous. Among such things as being on Student Council and a member of the Student Council Public Relations committee, he has held chairmanships on the Boy's Club council of Maine West. Despite his many outside activities, John has maintained a "B" average for the past three years.

John's future objective for Student Council is to promote increased co‑operation between the Student Council and the students of Maine West.

As president of Maine West's Student Council, John's major goal would be to promote and to maintain student and faculty cooperation throughout the school.

"Closer contact between Council representatives and their homeroom is an essential part of maintaining Student Council strength," so states Dan Wilberg, candidate for S. C. president. "Furthermore, it is necessary that the student body be well‑informed of Council and its functions."

Dan's platform consists of a five‑point program to (1) make Maine one of the finest schools in the nation; (2) increase student pride in his school; (3) promote more beneficial and successful projects; (4) increase unity within Council; (5) help establish fine school traditions.

Dan Wiberg, personable member of the class of '61, has shown his ability for leadership through many years of service. Previous to attending Maine, Dan was elected president of his junior high school Student Council. For the past three years, Dan has been an officer in his church youth group and was elected 1959‑'60 president of the group.

At Maine Dan has served two years as a Council representative. Recently he was chosen to serve during Des Plaines' Junior Official week. Throughout his three years at Maine, Dan has been able to maintain a 3.1 grade average.
