Pre‑election Week, next Monday, will mark the beginning of two important weeks at Maine West. From March 21 through the 25 campaign activities will be in full force followed by Election Week, March 28 through April 1. West students will witness two hectic weeks of late night strategy meetings and early morning hall skits climaxed by the selection of new Council officers for 1960‑61.
Candidates running for the office of president and secretary of Student Council will be introduced to the student body at the pre‑election assemblies on March 24. Freshmen and sophomores will attend the assembly second period, while juniors and seniors will convene seventh period.
The following Thursday, March 31, frosh and sophs will attend their election assembly first and second periods, and the juniors and seniors, the seventh and eighth periods.
Following the two election assemblies, the students will vote for the officers of the Student Council and turn in their ballots as they leave the auditorium.
In the first election at Maine West, three boys will be bidding for the presidencies, while two girls will be vying for secretary. Candidates for president of West's Student

Council are Andy Adolfson, managed by Nemo Shayne; John Hank, managed by Chuck Reid; and Dan Wiberg, managed by Jerry Mohr. Secretary hopefuls are Karen Barrett, managed by Trudy Johnson; and Carrie Perez, managed by Joe Byers.
Karen Fisher and Bruce Schell, co‑chairmen for organizations committee, remind students, "This election is no mere popularity contest. We are not trying to decide which candidate has the best skit, the best looks, or the best campaign. Instead, we should ask ourselves which candidate will be able to lead Maine West in the difficult year ahead."
Climaxing days of planning, tag making, and sleepless nights, the new president and secretary of the Council will be announced at the Election Jitney, Friday night, April 1, at which time they will make a brief speech of acceptance.
The Jitney will be held in the cafeteria from 8 until 11:30 p.m. Tickets are 25 cents and the Bell Tones will play music. Memory record invaluable to
"This is an informal affair," explained Barb Clark, social chairman of the Jitney, "which usually calls for school clothes." Barb also pointed out that it is not necessary to have a date to attend.
