Nan Leads Cheers, Loves Fun;
Denny Defends Student Council

"And we will go," or any other Maine West cheers are familiar to varsity cheerleader, Nancy Prochaska.

Full of fun, this gal can think of things to do that would make a "do gooder" run for the hills. Her pep, however, is used in cheerleading, for she claims to be a grouch and always tired on the days she's earning pin money at Lutheran General hospital. It's hard to believe this, for Nancy is always pleasant and has a big warm smile for everyone.

This year has found her active as a cheerleader, member of class council and vice‑president of Girls' club.

Even though Nancy finds her senior year the most fun, she has serious ambitions. She plans to attend the University of Illinois for two years and later to enter Evanston hospital for a career in nursing.

Because of her love of the out‑of‑doors, Nancy spent several summers as a Rand Park employee. It was during this summer job that Nancy bleached the front of her hair just to see how it would look. She's still getting teased.

Nancy may like good clean fun, but if she had her four years at Maine to do over she believes she would try to acquire better study habits and manage to get along without so many parties.

Maine holds many memories for Nancy, but the day she was chosen as a cheerleader is her happiest.

Walking by Honor study before second or seventh periods, you might catch a blurred glimpse of a 5 foot 10 inch frame topped by a brown crew cut. It belongs to Denny Obermayer, vice‑president pro‑tem of Student Council. Denny confirms that a sore spot of his is people who pick on Council. 'Contrary to popular belief," relates Denny, "Council is a lot of work. It is not a popularity job!"

Denny seems to find chemistry and modern world history most to his liking, and, in addition, during the summer he indulges in water sports, especially boating.

During the long winter months, Denny likes to read. "However, I don't find too much time for any hobbies. School takes up a lot of my time," he related.

Upon being questioned about his dislikes, Denny comments that one of them is students who cheat. He also adds, "People who chew gum in school bother me something fierce!" Aside from this, all's right with the world.

Three memorable events stand out in Denny's life: First was a bump over his right eye (the result of a wild baseball bat,) second when he almost lost a finger in a slammed door, and third, the trip to Peoria when Maine went down state to compete for the championship. "It was the greatest weekend I've ever had in my life."

When asked what he would most like to change about himself, Denny replied, "Well, I could do with having a nicer disposition in the morning., I'm very moody when I first get up, and until at least 8:00 a.m., I hate people, and people hate me."
