Council Election Near

As Maine West's first Election Week approaches, many students fondly remember the fun and excitement of past years. It is wonderful to participate in the skits and campaigning and to be a part of this important school activity. But when the tags, posters, glamour, and jokes are gone, we will be left with two Student Council officers.

Will these winners be good officers, capable of leading your Student Council? The choice is up to you. Many students may vote for the candidate with the cleverest gimmick or the most entertaining skit. But although these are assets in a campaign, they will help little next year

when the president and secretary are trying to perform the duties of their offices. Then they will need experience and ability. You, the voter, are responsible for electing the candidates who possess these qualities. You will not be able to do this unless you are acquainted with the platforms and qualifications of each candidate.

So that every student may be completely informed prior to Election Week, the Westerner is printing the qualifications and platforms of each candidate. It is up to you to take advantage of this and of every other opportunity to learn the facts about every candidate now ‑ and then to vote intelligently!
