West's Cindermen, Crush Red Devils

Maine West trackmen hiked their won‑loss record to five and zero, with their most recent dual meet victory against Hinsdale by a score of 72 1/2 to 27 1/2 at the Maine East fieldhouse. The Warriors will put their fine record on the line when they travel to Evanston tonight to compete with eleven of the finest teams in the Chicago area, in the annual Evanston Indoor relays.

The Warriors got off to a shaky start in the Hinsdale meet as the Red Devils captured the first two events to give them an early lead. These were the only events the Red Devils captured, although they did tie for first in the high‑jump. The 880‑yard run was taken by Warrior Ed Stedman in 2:09.8. The four‑lap relay quartet from West won with a time of 1:19.1. Senior Joe Juszak whipped all his competition in the 440‑yard dash in :55.4. The 50‑yard low hurdle event was captured by Denny Luzinski, junior, with a :06.7 clocking.

The string of victories for West was kept intact as Sig Weiler, junior, topped all milers in 5:03.0. Maine West's distance relay team covered the eight laps in 2:54.8 for another five points for Maine. Junior Art Steele then came strong in the broad‑jump to win with a leap of 19 feet 11 1/4 inches. Jim Solka, senior, vaulted 11 feet, higher than any boy from Hinsdale or Maine West for top honors.

The Warriors final win over the Red Devils came in the shot‑put, as the luckless Hinsdalers found Warrior John Charles, senior, throwing the shot 47 feet 7 inches, eight feet better than their best thrower.
