Seventh position in the Illinois State Gymnastics meet last Saturday at Wiliowbrook was the result of Maine West's first year of competition in in this sport. From a field of 27 Illinois high schools, the Warriors beat out such competitors as Hinsdale, Prospect, and Maine East.

"The team has improved greatly during the past year," exuberantly commented coach Sid Drain, "and I think we made a fine showing in the state meet."

Senior Dick Sass and sophomores Bill Downing, Tom Janssens, and Jim Lunetto were represenatives of West's gym team. Sass, however, was the only Maine West competitor that qualified for the, finals on Saturday. Scoring in two events, Sass placed third in the state on the parallel bars and eighth on the horizontal bar. Although not qualifying for the state meet on Saturday, Downing placed twelfth in the state in the tumbling event.
