Netmen Open New Season March 31st

Maine West's first tennis team, under the instruction of Mr. Roy Kearns, has been working out in one of the school gyms ever since February 29. There were 44 boys who attended that first practice.

The team, with a 16‑meet schedule is awaiting its first dual meet with Evanston on March 31 at Evanston. They also will participate in the Blue Island tournament and the state meet. The surprisingly large turnout of tennis hopefuls consists mainly of sophomores. Bob Osborne and Bill Henning, seniors, the only returning lettermen, will provide the backbone of this year's team.

At the present time, the team is running a ranking tournament to determine who will fill the two doubles teams and the singles men who will comprise the varsity tennis team. No partners have been assigned yet for the doubles, as the team is still experimenting with various combinations.

Home meets will be held at Maine West on the eight courts which were completed last fall. Coach Kearns is now looking for tennis fans who would like to help the tennis team by scoring home meets. Anyone, student or adult, who would like to score meets is invited to contact Mr. Kearns at Maine West.
