Thinclads Extend Unbeaten Record;
Whip Taft, Austin

The Warrior cindermen lengthened their unbeaten dual and tri‑meet record with a hard earned victory over Austin and Taft of Chicago, at Maine East last Friday, by a score of Maine West 591/2, Austin 39 1/6, and Taft 27 1/3. This win enabled the varsity boardmen to post a six win, no loss record in dual and tri‑meet competition so far this year. West High victims have been Austin twice, Prospect, Glenbrook, RiversideBrookfield, Hinsdale, and Taft.

Tomorrow the Warriors wind up this successful first indoor track season when they travel to Oak Park to compete with 40 of the finest track schools in Illinois in the annual Oak Park relays.

The Warrior thinclads captured five firsts, six seconds, five thirds, and three fourths, in gaining the important victory over their cousins from Chicago.

Juniors Ed Stedman and Art Steele were double winners for Maine West. Stedman topped all comers in the 880‑yard run with a 2:07.9 clocking, and later won the mile run in 4:57.8. Steele jumped 5'9" for first in the high‑jump, and tied teammates Art Lemke and Jim Solka in the pole vault at 10'6" for top honors there. Denny Luziriski, also a junior, was clocked in :06.4 and a first place in the 50‑yard low hurdles. One record was tied, though not by a Warrior, as a Taft entry, Albertson, ran the 50‑yard dash in :05.5, to equal the Maine fieldhouse record for the 50‑yard dash.

Coach Minerick remarked after the meet was over, "I was pleased with many of the boys' times and jumps this evening.. When we go outdoors for our meets, we will really be tough to beat."
