All Acvtive Clubs At West

On Monday, April 4, the Theater club will make a trip to Chicago to see Redhead, a play from Broadway starring Gwen Verdon.

The club, sponsored by Mr. Marlan Davis, English teacher, consists of about 34 students who attend various plays which are being presented in the city.

Since the club is designed mainly to entertain its members, there is no necessity for formal officers. Instead, a central committee, including Norm Boyer, Carol Koscal, and Char Thompson lead the discussion o the plays, and, along with Mr. Davis, decide which ones are to be seen during the season.

Other projects this year have included trips to see the plays Look Homeward, Angel and West Side Story. Future plans consist of viewing The Pleasure of His Company and the movie spectacular Ben‑ilur.

DO YOU BELIEVE workers should share in their company's profits? Should an employee have a sliding wage scale? Should the federal government substantially increase its regulation of labor unions? The Maine West Debate club will argue these and other questions dealing with the labor problem in a special exhibition debate on April 8 in the student lounge.

"Any students interested in debate or in a "good old‑fashioned" argument are invited to attend the debate at 3:30 next Friday afternoon. Refreshments will also be served," informed Miss Harriet Johnson, the club's advisor.

Leaders of the discussion will be Carol Barrett, freshman; Jim Moyer, sophomore; and Craig Seitz, sophomore. Participants are John Saari, sophomore; and Celeste Stochnik, junior.

LIVING UP TO GERMANY'S kaffee and kuchen tradition, the German club at Maine West follows each meeting with a kaffee klatsch. Twenty‑five members meet in room B‑213 each month to discuss current German affairs and to plan field trips and future events.

Miss Elsie Ekstrom. language instructor, is the sponsor.

Other meetings have included showing slides and movies of Germany, and prominent travelers have discussed their jour, neys in Deutchland. Miss Ekstrom emphasizes, "Every student who is taking or has taken German should take advantage of this club. We have had a very interesting and varied program, and we will welcome all interested students who want to learn more about Germany and have a lot of fun while doing it!''

ONE OF THE NEWLY formed clubs at Maine West is the Maine West Rummy club. Its purpose is to give recognition to certain persons who have in no way distinguished themselves in sports or extra‑curricular activities.

The most important project of 'the year was the annual membership drive which was a huge success. Qualifications for membership included being rut from at least two varsity athletic teams and having no athletic ability. Students who are members of extra curricular activities but take no active part are also eligible.

The club is trying to build up spirit where it is needed the most‑within the ranks of its members.

Anyone making any advancements is immediately dropped from the club, as membership is highly restricted.
