Oriental Mood Sets Junior Prom's Theme

Japanese lanterns, pagodas, and other Oriental modes will set the scene for "Shan Yueh", the Junior Prom, to be held on May 21, in the cafeteria from 9‑12 p.m.

The selected Oriental name for the prom when translated means "Mountains of the Moon." "The theme and name were picked by the class council," according to president Mike Callaghan, "because of their many decorative opportunities." The council's choice for entertainment is Dan Belloc and his orchestra.

Decorations, under the guidance of chairman Barb Manny, are being decided. "We have many good and unusual ideas and I'm sure that all who attend the prom will be surprised and delighted with the results," related Barb. Without disclosing any specific information, Barb would only say that the cafeteria will be a Japanese garden motif and the honor study hail will depict a Japanese tea house.

"Cookie" Lavine, head of the refreshment committee, reports that the refreshments will be apropos, unusual, and fun to eat, as well as being conversational.

Rita Gardino, chairman of the bid committee, declares that the sample bid has been chosen. "I'm sure all the girls will like the bids very much," disclosed Rita. "They will make beautiful souvenirs.."

Guests of honor are being selected by a committee headed by Becky Byers. According to Becky the guests will include class sponsors, all junior homeroom teachers, various members of the administration, the junior PTC, and parents of class officers and committee heads.

Cloakroom problems are being handled by Marilyn Binder. The cloakroom will be located off B wing coming from the bus concourse.

Proper dress for the prom will be informal. Informal in this case meaning formals for girls and dark suits for boys.
