Banquet for Writing Staffs

The announcement of the WESTERNER staff and the LEGEND. staff for the school year 1960‑61 will be the highlight at the Quill and Scroll banquet to be held 7 p.m. on May 10, at a local restaurant.

Mr. Floyd Fulle, editor of the Des Plaines Suburban Times, will be the guest speaker at the banquet. He will speak on the importance of journalism in everyday life. He will also present pins to the newly initiated members of the Quill and Scroll society of Maine West.

The students who are to be initiated into the Quill and Scroll are Eileen Corcoran and Art Chick of the Westerner; Barb Lehr and Carol Peterson of the Legend. Also in this group will be Jeanne Holland, Tim Hunt, Ed Stedman and

Bob Welch of the Westerner. In order to become a member of the Quill and Scroll, the student must have 100 inches printed in local newspapers, or the Westerner, or he must have worked two years on the yearbook staff. The student must also be in the upper third of his class.

The officers of the Quill and Scroll society at Maine West are Nancy Thinnes, president; Mary Ann Normark, secretary; and Doug Hales, treasurer. Nancy will be the MC at the banquet.

Approximately 50 students of the Westerner and Legend staff, and of the English III J (journalism) class are expected to attend the dinner.
