Warrior of the West

"Lightning" is the name which Maine West's wrestling team has given to senior letterman Bill Henning.

Bill, lettering in wrestling during his sophomore year and in tennis last year, has been an asset to both teams. When entering Maine in his freshman year, Bill immediately took to the great facilities offered in sports and went out for wrestling. In spite of his size and weight he wrestled in the 95‑lb. weight class on the frosh‑soph team and earned his numerals. In his sophomore year he wrestled in the 103‑lb. weight spot on the varsity squad he earned his letter. In his junior year he moved up to the 120‑lb. weight class and this year wrestled in the 127‑lb. weight division.

During the year Bill won 12 matches and tied one without having any defeats. In the Illinois tournaments he captured second in both districts and in sectionals. Throughout Bill's wrestling career he has won 36 meets while losing only 6, and tying 5.

In tennis, Bill's career has been just as spectacular. He joined the freshman team and played first doubles, and in his sophomore year he played first singles and earned his numerals. Last year, under the guidance of Mr. Kenneth Olson, tennis coach, he played 3rd singles and earned his letter. This year Bill has been one of the greatest helps to the squad and plays in the number one position.

Although wrestling and tennis are only main interests that Bill has, he also enjoys chemistry and plans to major in it at Valparaiso university. This year, he has also served as vice‑president of M‑club.
