Adding a new tourney to their second season, the Maine West Warrior basketball squad will see action in the downstate Pontiac Christmas tournament next year.

Besides playing in the tournament, the oldest in the state of Illinois, the bucket squad will also compete in the Interim association.


The Dad's Club Spring Sports banquet will honor the baseball, track, tennis, and golf teams on Wednesday evening, June 1. Letter and numeral awards will be presented to deserving team members. The Most Valuable and Honorary Captain awards will be given to the boys chosen by their team mates, according to the athletic director, Mr. Kenneth Olson. These 16 boys will have their names engraved on plaques presented by the Dads' club.

Coach Al Carsten's baseball team will see District competition at Park Ridge on May 9, 10, and 11, The Warriors are in a four‑team district, along with Arlington, Maine East, and Prospect. In opening competition the Maine East Blue Demons face Prospect on the ninth followed by the Warriors and Arlington on the tenth. Winners of these games will clash on the eleventh, and the victor will travel to Arlington for the Regional contests, with winners from districts at Niles, Glenbrook, and Barrington. The Park Ridge winners will go against Barrington. From there the winner goes to Rockford West, and Sectional competition. The state finals will be June 2 and 3.

Under the guidance of Mr. Roy Kearns, Maine West's tennis team has compiled a record of three wins and five losses. Of the losses, several were by only one point. The Warriors have beaten Proviso West, Prospect, and Elmwood Park.

Boys who have seen meet action include Tom Benson, Adam Berg, Jim Brennan, Jim Edwards, Bill Henning, Phil Johnson, George Menger, Bob Osborne, and Louis Schultze. Home tennis meets are played at Rand Park.


A total of 10 boys have seen varsity golf action thus far, under Mr. David Henry of the Maine West mathematics department. The team has beaten York, and has lost to Proviso West, New Trier, and Downers Grove. The golfers are Mike Blazek, Dave Dettner, Bill Graebner, Jerry Mason, Bob Miller, Bob Olson, Ray Peterson, Bill Priebe, Tim Richards, and Doug Seagren.


Maine West's golf and track teams will compete this year in the Interim Association conference meets, to be held later in May.. The duffers will compete unattached for the meet practice, although the tracksters will be eligible for the conference crown. The West track team has defeated every Interim team they've run against.
