Two girls, Lynn Marriette and Nancy Thinnes, were honored as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, in the Honors assembly given this morning at 9 a.m. These students achieved the highest averages in grades among their classmates during their four years of high school. Lynn entered Maine West last September. She came from Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Many other 1960 graduates were honored at this time. Department awards were handed out to Doug Hales and Molly Meilstrup for achievment in art; Janet Blohm and Elaine Bodenstab for business education; George House for English; Rebecca Edman for home economics; Ron Bending for industrial arts; Dave Dettner and Dorothy Schneider for language; William Julitz for mathematics; Dave Wedeking for music; John Wiese for Boys' physical education; Beverly Gunderson for girls' physical education; Stanley Gembicki for science; and Barry Collins for social science.

Good Will Award

Selected for the Good Will awards were Barbara Clark, Trudy Johnson, Jane Lewis, Linda Roessing, and Nancy Thinnes for girls; and Barry Collins, William Henning, Charles Reid, Dave Stenmark, and George Verber for the boys. Seniors are nominated for this honor by the senior homeroom teachers. They are then voted on by the faculty and junior senior classes. One is selected for every 100 in the graduating class and fraction thereof.

Jane Lewis received her DAR award from Mrs. Robert Fox, Good Citizens award representative of the Park Ridge chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This is an award given annually to recognize an outstanding senior girl. George Verber was presented the honor of being the Athelete of the year 1959‑60. This was decided by a vote of the M‑Club members.

Two Mothers' club scholarships were given to Mary Ann Normark and Marie Ann Yonus by Mrs. R. W. Hopkins, president of the Maine West Mothers' club. James Edward was given the Washington University book award by Mrs. Henry Pierson. A special award went to Gertrude McNeal given by the Girls' Athletic association for her four years of outstanding participation.

Sandra Harrvig, junior, was student M.C. of the assembly, while Principal Ralph Frost represented the faculty. All department chairmen were seated on the stage. The assembly was attended by juniors and seniors. Included on the program was the Maine West orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Mildred Heidorn.
