This year's top science students were given recognition Friday, May 27, at the Science Awards night presented at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium by Maine West's science clubs.
The winners of the scholarship awards were chosen by their science teachers. To be eligible for this honor, a student must have earned an A or B grade in his science course and, in some cases, must also have received a high score on an achievement examination covering the year's work in science.
The following research awards were presented by Mr. Joseph Clouser, Science Senior director, to State Science Fair winners: George Rippen and John Schafer, Outstanding; Michael Bobbins, First Place; and Art Behn and Steve Priest, Second Place. Bill Julitz is the winner of the Bausch & Lomb Science award.
Chemistry Scholarship awards presented by Carole Koscal, Chemistry club treasurer, were given to Janet Amundsen, Bruce Berlet, Kenneth Cornelius, Todd Gartner, Stanley Gembicki, Greg Hales, William Henning, Bill Julitz, Carole Koscal, Scott McDonald, Donald Mathieson, Joseph Mitchel.
Also James Moyer, Ronald Normark, Victor Oakley, Bob Pawelko, Robert Petkus, Frank Prochaska, Gretchen Rider, John Saari, Gary Schliekert, Henry Schure, Donald Seagren, Bruce Smith, Philip Wankat, Reino Warren, and Pat Weretka.
Physics Scholarship awards, presented by Charles Weber, Physics club president, were given to Howard Arnson, Randy Baselt, Margo Beck, Karen Brown, Robert Goeke, Tom Helfers, David Hopkins, Tom Kinders.
