Maine West's cindermen brought home the Interim conference trophy for first place to climax a near perfect season for a first year school. The meet was held at Glenbrook, May 26. Final scoring showed Maine 64 1/2, Wheaton 41, Wilowbrook 33, Glenbrook 27 1/2, Leyden East 24, Prospect 14, and Proviso West 6.
Four individual events and a relay were taken by the Warriors. Two sophomores surprised everybody, including themselves, by winning their events. Ray Leonardson topped the broad jump competition with a leap of 20 feet 11 1/2 inches. Lee Wolf edged out teammate Joe Juszak in an almost photo finish with a :52.1 clocking and a victory in the 440 yard dash. West's third champion, John Charles, came through in the shotput as the powerful Warrior heaved the heavy iron ball 49 feet 4 inches to beat out teammate Carl Nichols by just 7 inches.

Len Lundgren tied four competitors in winning the high jump at 5 feet 6 inches. The 880 yard relay quarter with Leonardson, Neumann, Mason, and Albertson was the making of the final victory. Winning time for the Westmen was 1:33.7.
Other places for West were taken by Luzinski who was second in the high hurdles, :15.6, and third in the lows, :20.7; Albertson, third in the 100 yard dash, :10.3, and third in the 220, :22.9; Luzietti, third in the high hurdles, :15.8; Stedman, third in the mile, 4:44.8; Solka, tie for second in the pole vault at 11 feet; Lundgren, third in the broad jump at 19 feet 111/2 inches; Leonardson, second in the 100 yard dash, :10.4; Franzen, third in low hurdles, :20.9; Martin, fourth in discus, 141 feet 8 inches; and the mile relay team with Harazin, Luzietti, Neill, and Juszak third place, 3:32.7.
