School year 1959‑60. New home for Mainites opened. Football games, homecoming, basketball games, new song, and new nickname come into use; first Christmas formal. Clubs starting to get on their feet. West's first music program. Variety show; election week, with all its excitement; that miserable third quarter slump. Then, suddenly, finals week. No time to do anything about those anemic grades. And now it's all over.
For juniors, sophomores, and freshmen there is another year to make up for this one's errors. But for the seniors, this was it.
As the first graduating class in the history of Maine Township High School West, the class of '60 continues setting precedents. West has seen its first Senior prom, which started a new trend by being held at school. The first annual Senior Mother‑Daughter dessert was held‑precedent setting in its tremendous turnout. The first honors assembly has just ended, and awards have been given to deserving Warriors for the first time.

Baccalaureate was last Sunday. Senior brunch is tomorrow. Then comes the last, but most important of the firsts, the graduation ceremonies. Soon all these firsts will simply be "past glories." Most are history already.
The students who are making history now will keep right on doing so. Many will continue their schooling, attending colleges from coast to coast. Others will join the work force now. The future is bright for everyone. But no matter how good or bad life is to each one of us, no senior will ever forget his first and last year at Maine West.
