Study Hall? Be Patient

"The student council honor study room will be open within two weeks," stated student council president Doug Wright. Doug added, "The honor study room will be an experimental project depending entirely upon the cooperation of the students using it. It will be run by the service corps of student council."

At first only juniors and seniors will be allowed to use the room. Any student who received any grade lower than a C on his final semester report card last year will be immediately ineligible to use the honor room.

The honor study system has been an experiment in many of our nation's leading schools. In all cases where the students showed cooperation the idea was a success.

Students have already been able to note the design and decorating in the unit. Doug Wright said, "If we find at the end of a designated period of time that the room is not overcrowded, sophomores meeting the required standards will also be admitted. If we find that it still is not overcrowded, the service may also be extended to the freshmen. This situation, however, depends solely upon the number of students participating in this privilege."

Asked for an overall view on this new concept of study, Doug added, "If we are assured that the study room rules are not being abused, there may come a time when all study halls at Maine West will be on the honor system. For this reason I ask that all students taking advantage of this new privilege help to make it a huge success."
