Demon Of The Week

"You're going to be Demon of the Week for the next Westerner, Jerry."

"I don't feel like a demon."

"Why not?"

"I'm beat."

This is what was told to "Scoop" DuVal while running along with senior Jerry Romes at one of the cross‑country practices.

If Romes is tired, he has a right to be. He has been running for four years (not constantly) on Maine's cross‑country team. After earning his numerals in cross‑country twice, baseball and track, Romes lettered in this two mile run in his junior year. He also was a member of last year's state championship baseball team.

Although practicing most of the time, he can be found at home working on his bomb (50 Mercury) or hitting wedge shots off his front lawn in his spare time.

About the team, he says this, "We look good and have a swell chance for conference if we can beat those Hilltoppers from Glenbard who took second in state last year."

Jerry's biggest pet peeve is a football player named Schmidt who tells him how easy crosscountry is compared to football.

After high school Romes plans to attend Illinois University at Champaign to study for a degree in Physical Education.
