Swamp Fox Ready Soon

Swamp Fox, the FM radio station project for Maine, will be ready to go on the air, November 1, according to Mr. Keith Honn, program director. Maine Township High school district has received permission from the Federal Communications commission to operate an educational but non‑commercial FM broadcasting station on an uninterrupted schedule. WMTH will broadcast on 88.5 megacycles with 10 watts of power from the Maine East tower beginning with one hour a day. The station may be heard within a radius of about six miles.

The station's planning committee for the '59‑'60 school, year, announced by Dr. Earle Wiltse, superintendent, include the following: Mr. E. J. Anderson, history department; Mr. Ralph Frost Jr., West principal; Mr. Keith Honn, social science; Mr. Paul McKinnis, West public relations; Dr. Elmer Stolte, East principal; and Mr. Theron Whitfield, industrial arts. Additional sub‑committees will be appointed later.

Estimated cost of the station is $6,000. Since this project is independent of tax funds, it will be entirely supported by the Student Activities corporation.

Equipment, including transmitter, antenna, and recording machines is scheduled to arrive this week.

Programs will include live broadcasts of away games, prerecorded musical and panel programs which will all be written, edited, and presented by Maine students.

"The largest task lies in training student personnel," informed Mr. Honn, "in the fundamentals of radio operation."
