Students To Determine
Homecoming Success

Although the homecoming game is held next Friday evening, events really begin on Thursday. After accumulating a pile of wood east of Dempster and Potter, the annual bonfire will get under way. It is held as a giant pep rally before the "big game" of the football season. This is something no student should find any excuse to miss. Seeing the flames leaping skyward and cheering with the cheerleaders lend an unequaled air of festivity to the evening's event.

Anyone who has ever attended one of these bonfires does not want to miss one, and those who have not gone are missing a very exciting experience. Every student in the school is welcome at this event as he is at any of the float building locations during the week.

There is no school for students on Friday, due to a special teachers' meeting. This gives every student a ready‑made opportunity for working on floats. As usual, quite a few of the clubs are sponsoring floats. So are the four classes. Each group will be doing its best to win a prize in this year's category, Travel.

It takes a lot of people to build a good float, and it is an experience you will never forget. If you don't belong to any clubs around school, the class float is your destination. Yours will need construction help just as much as the club's will.

One of the high points of the school year for any student is the moment when, at halftime, the parade of floats begins. Here, at the game, is the time and place for your enthusiasm and spirit. Show your team you really want them to push for victory with your floats and your enthusiastic attendance. Come prepared to cheer until your voice is gone and do it.

Saturday brings the climax to the weekend's festivities. Here, amidst gaily dressed couples, the court is officially presented to the school. All students, freshman through senior, are welcome and many alumni attend.

With the alumni returning for this dance, certainly the students should come out. Although you boys don't think you can dance, maybe that little doll you've been eyeing does.

This year's homecoming can be the biggest and best ever held at Maine. It can go down in the history of the school as the most spirited weekend in years. It is all up to the student body.
