Purdue Poll Used At West
The Purdue Opinion panel is now being taken in the democracy classes on the subject, "Youth's Attitudes toward Mental Illness."

Printed test forms are passed out during a class period, to be filled out by each student. There are no right or wrong answers since this test is for the purpose of obtaining an opinion.

Both Maine and Maine West were chosen to participate in the program, which was begun last year, although doubts have been raised as to the continuance of it at Maine West.
This nation wide poll is taken at least three times a year and is conducted by the Division of Educational Reference, Purdue university, LaFayette, Indiana.

Various questions are asked, and on completion of the poll, the results are published in a pamphlet, available upon request, and printed in the Thursday's edition of the Chicago Tribune.

The aim of the poll is to prevent mental illness by raising the general level of people's understanding of the problem, to increase the understanding of the symptoms of mental illness, and to improve public attitudes toward former mental patients and thus aid in their total rehabilitation.
