I'm just an average American boy who enjoys life." This is senior Doug Schmidt's philosophy on life. Although quite active, Doug enjoys just plain eating, sleeping, and bumming around.
Football is Doug's main interest at Maine. He plays end on the varsity as he did last year, when he letttered. Doug, a sort of happy‑go‑lucky fellow, is quite large, 6' 2", 208 lbs., but very agile. He was a member of Maine's varsity basketball team last year and earned his numerals in this sport his sophomore year. Doug, however, has found that school is not only for athletics. He has carried a B average for jazz and classical music and likes to read everything from William Shakespeare to Mickey Spillane. Although he has very few dislikes, he does admit to a distaste for women drivers, loud mouths, and rock and roll. When asked about some exciting things which happened to him in his four years at Maine, Doug said "Everything I do is exciting."
In the future Doug is looking forward to attending college somewhere in the Midwest. He is debating between Illinois at Champaign and the University of Michigan at which he will study liberal arts.
