The parade of floats, the band program, the five Homecoming queens and the Homecoming dance were all a part of one of the most exciting Homecomings in Maine history.
Upholding a now four‑year‑old tradition, the junior class created a first place entry in the Homecoming parade Friday night. Their float appeared in the form of a giant blue Dumbo elephant with huge flapping ears, blinking eyes, and a wagging tail shown leaping over a victory goalpost. In keeping with the travel theme, the float was entitled, " 'Ears To A Flying Victory." Second place in the parade went to the senior class for, "Put A Demon In Your Tank." Their float, a glimmering gold sports car being filled by two gas pumps containing "Super 60," and "Victory Octane," was pulled by four white Volkswagons signifying the seniors' four years at Maine. The freshman class took third with the "Purple People Beaters." A giant purple and white rocket ship signifying the Downers' team and manned by a crew of Downers' players was shown taking off after being defeated by a, huge Maine demon.

Other floats in the parade were Art club, "Flight to Victory;" band, "Victory at Sea;" sophomore class, "Show Downers;" Boys' club, "Choo Choo 'Em Up;" G.A.A., "Down with Downers;" Dads' club, "We Have Traveled ‑ Ask Us;" Stagecrafters, "Gulliver Travels to Victory;" and Physics club, "Physics of Phootball." The winning floats were judged on originality, cleverness, and aptness of theme.
The Maine marching band participated in the half‑time ceremonies with a program based on "Travel."
Queens Karen Acton, Pam Fox, Margi Koehler, Janie Lewis, and Dennett Sheridan were presented at the half of the varsity game and were officially crowned at the Homecoming dance, the final event of the Homecoming weekend.
