10 Girls Head Squad

Seniors Sandy Assitor, Sue Hess, Dottie Hansen, Liz Stephenson; juniors, Jill Dowey, Carrie Perez; and sophomores Nikki Rappaport, Judy Reid,  ari Barb White, were selected to represent Maine West's newly assembled Pom‑Pom squad. Sue Lightner will be captain.

Nearly 190 girls came out to practice the Friday previous to the tryouts, while 130 came to the preliminaries on Wednesday, October 13. By the following day the group had been narrowed to 34. The final selection came after tryouts were held on October 14 in the B‑wing gym after school.

Contestants were judged on a five‑point basis. The point system was applied in the categories of pep, co‑ordination, personality, personal reactions, and personal appearance representative of Maine.

Miss Bonnie Walheim, gym instructor, said that making a selection from the many applicants was difficult.

Judges assisting Miss Walheim were Miss Corinne Clark, girls P. E. chairman, Sue Eagleson, captain of the cheerleading squad; Sue Raphael, Pep club president; and four1 members of last year's Pom‑Pom squad from Maine which included Dottie Hansen, Dee Crotty, Sue Miller, and Elaine Vente.
