Complaints Are Varied

The WESTERNER staff welcomes timely letters on school topics for publication. Send them to Room A‑ill or put them in mailbox 112 in main office. All letters must be signed. Names will not be used if so requested.

Dear Editor:
Why is it that some teachers grab papers out of your hands if you're reading them as you walk down the halls? One day I was doing some last minute studying for a test as I walked down the hail, and a teacher grabbed my notes. I think it's my own business what I read when I'm not in a classroom or study hall.

Disturbed???

Dear Editor:
For the past few Fridays, I have witnessed the weekly school pep rallies in the B‑wing gym and the auditorium. While I feel that the idea was begun in good faith, it seems to have failed miserably. Although the rallies are fairly well‑attended, they are failing because they are not attaining their purpose. The rallies reached a new low Friday, October 9, when many students danced to the tune of the Maine Pep song.

If these meetings are for the purpose of building up school spirit, let's do it. If this goal is not possible, let's discontinue the pep rallies.

Editor:
A few weeks ago an unfortunate incident occurred in the cafeteria before classes. Two "green" freshmen entertained the jammed cafeteria with an impromptu performance.

Before this incident, everything was running smoothly. The administration had been pleasantly surprised and teachers praised the conduct of the students in using the cafeteria.

Now the cafeteria is patrolled It seems a shame that two frosh (obviously unaware of school rules) can ruin the atmosphere for the entire student body.

We have proved, before this incident, that we can be trusted to meet our friends without causing riots, gangfights, or general disturbances. Besides, it's a nuisance for the teachers to have to take turns patrolling every morning. Can't this rash change be reconsidered?
