Pep, Openhouses Typify Sue, Nemo

"AND WHEN THOSE Maine high school boys fall in line": That's the familiar cheer you will hear when cheerleading captain Sue Eagleson and her squad lead the Maine rooting section. This cute, cheerful senior and the other cheerleaders appear at all the football games and, along with the students, spur our players on to victory.

Heading Sue's list of extra-curriculars is the position of cheerleading captain. She was also elected secretary of the Girls' club and is a member of Pep club and G.A.A. Active in her church youth group, and serving on her class council for 2 years, she has managed to maintain a "B" average.

From Shelly Berman's records and Romano's pizza to chemistry (???) and boys, Sue's interests are many and varied, but her present enjoyment is planning for her future beatnik Halloween party. Disliking most fads, she hopes the gym shoes one will be over soon so that she can rest her aching feet! Since Sue is a cheerleader, her greatest irritation is the lack of spirit at the games. Stated Sue, "We've got a lot of kids and a great team so let's really get out there and back them with a lot of pep and spirit."

Sue's future looks very bright with a college education at the University of Illinois or at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She hopes someday to become an elementary school teacher. When asked what year in high school she liked best, Sue replied, "My senior year, because it gives me and other seniors a chance to make Maine West the kind of school we want it to be and a school of which we can be proud."

TO ANSWER THE ever‑popular question, "How did you get a name like 'Nemo'?", once and for all, the possessor of this name, Allen (Nemo) Shayne, explains that it means "no name" in Latin and was given to him before birth by an aunt. If you want to stay on his good side (which most people do), don't try to discover his reaction to being called Allen ‑ he much prefers Nemo!

In his years at Maine, Nemo has been on Boys' club council, the football squad for two years, and on student council for three. This year he heads council's service corps, placing him in charge of the hall and parking lot monitors.

Besides girls, Nemo mentions his hobbies as being electronics, girls, cars, girls, skin diving, girls. Close to becoming either a hobby or a habit is his weakness for having his home turned over each year since he was a frosh as headquarters for student council elections. He is planning to provide a headquarters again this year.

Under the heading of favorites, Nemo ranks seeing lots of people having fun first. To exemplify this he refers to openhouses for some strange reason! Contrary to popular belief, he does not enjoy rapping people. "It just comes out that way!" states Mr. Shayne. One of his happiest memories is the state baseball tournament held in Peoria last spring. "We had a real blast!" Concerning the new school, Nemo expresses only pleasure. He admits missing some of his friends from the Maine campus, but is consoled by his love of anything new.

"Levis should be, banned from school dress," was Nemo's emphatic answer when questioned as to what changes he'd like to see. Following this change closely would be "getting soap in the boys' locker rooms!"

Future plans for this gaff lover are indefinite. Although he intends to go to Illinois University, he is not sure of his major. "Maybe law enforcement .... who knows? Maybe I'll be a hobo!"
