College Corner
Illinois School Typifies Small American College

Illinois Wesleyan, while maintaining a university organization, is a good example of the small American college. It emphasizes the Liberal Arts and Fine Arts, and features a school of Nursing.

Under Methodist sponsorship, Illinois Wesleyan has been a church‑affiliated college since its founding. It is noted for its religious courses.

Illinois Wesleyan is located at Bloomington, one of the most beautiful cities in Illinois. Bloomington and its suburban districts have a population of approximately 50,000, thus affording students the advantage of a large community. The geographical position of the university makes it easily accessible from all directions by rail, highway, or airline.

The necessary educational and dormitory facilities are available at Illinois Wesleyan. Residences are designed to adapt group‑living to the ideals and comforts of a well‑regulated American home. In each university residence ball or chapter house there is a resident housemother who acts as counselor and hostess for her students. She is under the direction of the dean of students.

The cost per year is about $1,400, which includes tuition, room and board. At Illinois Wesleyan there are five national fraternities and two national professional organizations.

Each spring the students and faculty have as guests on the campus, high school seniors who are planning to attend college the following fall. The Spring festival, usually held in April, is under the general management of the admissions office and the sophomore class. Entertainment consists of a preview of various campus activities. Fraternity and sorority houses and university dormitories are used to entertain the visitors. If a student is interested in the Spring festival he can write to the Dean of Admissions for further information.

For those students interested in scholarships, this college offers several forms of financial assistance to deserving and qualified students. If more information is desired, write: Dean of Admissions, Illinois Wesleyan, Bloomington, Illinois.
