Maine's Frosh‑Soph crosscountry team swept two dual meets with conference foes La Grange and Downers, and also took second at the Leyden Invitational, earning four blue ribbons in the past two weeks.

Lyons held first in the 21‑36 Maine win (low score wins), but Dale Peterson (9:54), Mike Blodgett (10:00), John Murray (10:02), and Bob Kinsey (10:04) swept the next four places for the Blue Demons. Bob Iverson (10:07) took seventh, while Larry Martin (10:08) held ninth.

Maine took second at the Frosh‑Soph Leyden Invitational out of 13 teams, behind Lyons. Maine had 71 points with Bob Kinsey, Dale Peterson, John Murray, and Bob Iverson winning ribbons. Mike Blodgett almost gained a fifth ribbon for Maine,

John Murray, with a time of 9:12 (the best Maine Frosh‑Soph time this year), took first in the 16‑58 romp over Downers that officially opened the homecoming weekend. Dale Peterson (9:19), Bob Kinsey (9:20), and Don Seagren (9:23) held second through fourth. Al Ralph (9:26) took seventh, Mike Canar (also 9:26) took eighth, Mike Blodgett (9:30) ninth, and Jim French (9:31) tenth. Downers' fifth point‑man was held to eighteenth.
