J. V. Squad Breaks Even

For the past three weeks, Maine fans have been the JV Blue Demons shut out by the Evanston Wildkits, 21-0, in the opener; tied the Hinsdale Red Devils, 6-6; and shut out York's Dukes, 6-0.

Next Monday afternoon the JV squad will play the La Grange eleven at La Grange. This will be the last away game for the junior gridmen this season.

Evanston 21, Maine 0

Evanston's line and the hard running ability of the Wildkit's backfield spelled trouble for West's JVers.

Two of Evanston's TD's were scored in the first quarter and ine in the fourth. After receiving the opening kick-off, Evanston made a substantial drive downfield and in nine plays scored their first touchdown when their quarterback ran down left end.

The second touchdown was scored when the Evanston signal caller threw a pass to the right end who in turn ran eight yards to cross the goal line.

In the fourth quarter Evanston intercepted a pass and in seven plays moved the ball to the Maine 12-yard line. Again the ball was given to the Evanston quarterback who ran around the right end and scored the third and final Evanston TD.

Maine 6, York 0

The Dukes found it hard going throughout the game Tuesday due to Maine's good offensive and defensive units, and the hindrance of poor weather.

Augie Mills made the only touchdown of the game, but Jim Turrville was unsuccessful in his attempt to kick the extra point.

Maine's TD came in the middle of the second quarter. The touchdown drive began on the Maine 41-yard line and the Demons continued carrying the ball downfield to the York nine-yard line.

On the second down, Mills carried the ball and with the help of good blocking scored the Demons' only counter.

During the fourth quarter the Dukes moved the ball from their own 13-yard line to the Maine nine, but failed to score because of a spectacular play by Maine's JV defensive end Tom Thomson. Lane 31-Maine 0

The Blue Demons fell victim to the Lane Tech T-formation and the passing and running ability of a flashy backfield.

At the beginning of the game, after the Maine kick-off, Lane took the ball on their. 41-yard line from which point they scored their first touchdown.

Lane kicked off to the Maine 10-yard line where the wing back returned to the Maine 35.

In the second quarter there was very little action but the third period found Lane scoring three touchdowns.

In the fourth quarter Maine received the kick-off and got a substantial drive underway. In 13 plays they moved to the Lane eight-yard line. On the next ball snap, however, their luck changed as the ball was fumbled and Lane recovered. Lane gave the ball to their quarterback who in turn passed to the end who ran for 45 yards to score the fifth and final Lane touchdown.
