Dr. Willis To Speak At West Dedication

Dr. Benjamin C. Willis, general superintendent of Chicago public schools, will be the guest speaker at the dedication ceremonies on November 8. His career as an educator began in the Chesapeake Bay region. Since then he has served as Principal and County superintendent in Maryland (1922‑47), Superintendent of Schools in Yonkers, New York (1947‑50), and Superintendent of Schools in Buffalo, New York (1950‑53). Since 1953, he has been General Superintendent in the Chicago school system.

His education has earned him degrees which include an A.B. from George Washington university (1922); M.A. from the University of Maryland (1926); Ph.D. from Columbia university (1950); and LL.D. from Northwestern university (1955). He is presently working for a Doctor of Human Letters at Central Michigan college.

Professional memberships of Dr. Willis' are American Association of School Administration, Illinois Association of School Administrators, National Education Association, and Illinois Education Association.

In addition to his work as general superintendent of public schools in Chicago, Dr. Willis is a lecturer and writer. In 1954 he was chairman of the yearbook commission of American Association of School Administrators. He is now chairman of the Educational Policies commission.
