Demon Of The Week

"Under the capable leadership of Coach Ken Olsen, our team has been successful so far in establishing a 7‑0 record," according to Ron Martin, 5'9" right guard.

Why does a guy go out for football? "Well," says Ron, "I did because it was a choice between that and cross country and I'm too lazy to run!" Football is not Ron's only athletic interest at Maine West.

He has been on the basketball and track squads for three years, too. Ron earned his numerals in track his sophomore year, and lettered in football and track when he was a junior.

The Arlington game of last Friday night is rated the toughest by this DOW. "Everyone was almost 20 pounds heavier than I." He is looking forward to the basketball season, sharing the opinion of his homeroom teacher that the team will do "quite well" as Ron puts it.

Music is high in Ron's favorite pastimes. He admits to having "a tremendous collection of Sue Lightner's records." Ron is also a mystery fan declaring Ellery Queen, Sherlock Holmes, and Mike Hammer as tops in this field. Mr. Martin also likes to collect cigars, but finds the competition in this area quite keen.

"Girls who wear too much makeup and eating pizza with girls" are Ron's two outstanding pet peeves. Other than these, it is usually quite a feat to rile this blue‑eyed blond.

Vice‑president of the senior class and member of M‑club, Ron has a secret desire to be a disk jockey. He plans, however, to suppress this urge and major in physical education at college with a minor in social studies.
