Maine Rates In Top 44

Maine has been chosen by the Geneva Citizens council as one of the top 44 high schools in the nation. The decision was reached after the committee sent out a comprehensive questionnaire to teachers and administrators of 120 leading American colleges and universities.

Among other things, the educators were asked to name the high schools which -- consistently supplied them with the best qualified students. Twenty-four midwestern schools were chosen.

Wisconsin leads the midwest roster with nine schools. Illinois is second high, having eight schools receiving this honor. All of these schools are located in the Chicago area.

Indiana has four schools cited, putting it in third place, while Ohio has two, and Michigan one.

The eight schools in Illinois are Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lyons, Maine, New Trier, and Oak Park.
