Dear Editor:
For the past three years at Maine, I have looked up to student council with a sort of reverence. I suppose this is because I never had the energy to run for council myself.
This year, I believe, has been entirely different than the three preceeding it. That is, the homeroom representatives have been inadequate. Argumentative statements have taken the place of declaratory or explanatory ideas, and certain members have taken it upon themselves to decide matters of school policy.
I offer the suggestion that any member of student council should be removed from office on the first offence of any matter concerning studying during council meetings, not giving adequate reports to the homeroom he was assigned, or failure to meet any requirement in the constitution of the student council of Maine West.
In the future, I believe, our off‑council members should be given many more rights than in the past. I believe that offenders of any of these principles be removed and rechosen according to council constitution, as soon as possible for a period depending on the offense.

Dear Editor:
Some of the teachers in this school seem to be polar bears! It is quite discouraging to walk into a classroom and have cold blasts of air rushing out to meet you. Then we are supposed to concentrate on our school work, teeth chattering and duck bumps rising.
Let's close those windows and turn on the heat. Winter is here!

Dear Editor:
Couldn't something be done to make the teachers conform to some kind of testing and grading system? Some teachers are so strict in their grading that none of their students receive high grades.
I think that there should be an impartial official to whom students can submit complaints concerning teachers and grades that they consider unfair.

Dear Editor:
Now that we have officially split and become a separate school, what can be done about building "new" school spirit? I mean REALLY BUILD it up! The demonstrations of both class and school spirit thus far, with very few exceptions, have been sickening. There are many of us ready and willing to back the school. All we need is a push to get going. It is vastly important for the future of this school that it can look back at an impressive beginning from which future student bodies can set traditions. We are now approaching the basketball season. There couldn't be a better time to promote spirit then the present. The possibilities are unlimited. At this critical stage in the history of Maine West, every possible effort must be made to promote enthusastic school spirit. Let's give future Maine West students something to live up to!!

Dear Editor:
Why is it that all assemblies for some odd reason are held first period? It seems as though most students have study halls at this time. So why rob these scholars of valuable study periods, when it's just as easy to have assemblies at more convenient periods, like maybe second or third???
