Coach Olson Guides Demons To Victory

Since Maine went undefeated this past football season it is only natural that some special incentive was put into the team. This effort was put in by head coach Kenneth Olson and his staff.

For the past 18 seasons Mr. Olson has been head coach of the Maine foot      ball team. In that time his teams have won 111 games, lost 26, and tied two. This fine record has brought Maine five West Suburban league titles.. He has used the single-wing offense since he came to Maine in 1942. Coach Olson had been a firm believer in this offense since he was a star tailback at Bradley during his undergrad years.

Mr. Olson's Demons have won eight straight games, seven in league competition. Their opener was a 7 to 0 victory over Suburban league champion Evanston. Since Olson employed the single‑wing at Maine, the Demons never finished lower than third in conference play.

Coach Olson's partiality for a blocking type of offense is that not too many defensive linemen on the high level can avoid two blockers.

Mr. Olson also gives a lot of credit to his coaching staff, Al Carstens, Marv Nyren, and Gene Zuccarini. Coach Nyren played under Mr. Olson a few seasons back.

Maine West is very fortunate to have Mr. Olson as well as all the other varsity coaches on the staff. Mr. Olson will have the job of athletic director along with being head football coach at Maine West. Coach Olson will also assume the duties of athletic director.
