Mat Season Opens Today

Maine West's wrestlin' Warriors have opened practice in preparation for their re‑scheduled first meet at Proviso West on November 27 at 4:15.

Under varsity coach Richard Carlini, the Warriors will be aided by returning lettermen Darrell Wells, Bill Henning, Spike Robison, Bill Spyrison, and letterman‑state champ Tim Byram.

Several statewide rule‑changes will be experienced by the grapplers. The 175‑pound weight class has been changed to 180 pounds, and wrestlers must make their state tournament weight at the onset of the season. The frosh‑sophs, under Coach William Barringer, must also abide by the state rules changes.

The varsity grapplers will have nine home and five away dual meets. The wrestlers will also compete in State, District, Sectional, and Regional competition. All home meets will be held in "B" wing gym, and admission will be free with an activity ticket.

The meet schedule shows Proviso West (Away), Morton (Home), Willowbrook (Home), East Leyden (Away), Glenbrook (Home), Evanston (Away), Prospect (Home), Lake Forest (Away), Grant (Home), Palatine (Away), Arlington (Home), North Chicago (Home), Hinsdale (Home), State District, Niles (Home), State Sectionals, and the State Meet.
