Proviso, Willowbrook Beaten
by Grapplers

Maine West's wrestling Warriors opened the season on November 24 by squeaking past Proviso West 25‑23. December 1, the grapplers dropped their meet to Morton 31‑15. On the following Saturday, the Warriors won 22‑19, edging Willowbrook. Leyden East beat the grapplers on December 8 by the score of 27‑16. Last Saturday, the grapplers lost to Glenbrook, 30‑15.

Facing Proviso West at Hillside, Bob Jonas won 9-4 at 95 lbs.; Tom Carlin won on a forfeit at 103. Tim Bryam won on a forfeit, but also pinned his opponent in an exhibition match.

Bill Crowden won 5‑4 at 120, and in the 127 pound event Bill ilenning won 4‑0. Dick Geisler won 4‑0 in the 145 lb event. Bill Spyrison saved the win for the Warriors with his 4‑0 triumph at heavyweight.

Bob Jonas started at 95 lbs. by pinning his man with 5:28 gone at home against Morton. Tom Carlin tied at 103 lbs.; Tim Byram won 4‑3 at 112 lbs. In the 127 lb. bout, Bill Henning won 4‑1. Bill Spyrison. again provided the only other Warrior points of the day when he tied 2‑2 at heavyweight.

At 95 lbs. against the Willowbrook Warriors, Bob Jonas. again pinned his opponent‑with 5:12 gone. Tom Carlin won 14‑0 at 103. At 112, Tim By. cam again won, 5‑1. Darrell Wells tied 5‑5 at 120. Bill Henning won 3‑0 at 127; Chuck Novak beat his man 11‑1 at 133. Bill Spyrison again decided the Maine West win, this time with a 7‑0 final score.

Against Leyden East, a team with 31 straight victories, Bob Jonas again started with a win at 95. Tom Carlin won on a forfeit at 103. Tim Byram won 2‑0 in the 112 lb. event. Bill Henning captured the last Warrior win of the day, 3‑1, at 127 lbs. Bill Spyrison also tied 1‑1 at heavyweight.

Saturday Bob Jonas started out right again at 95 with a 1‑0 win. Tom Carlin again won against his Glenbrook opponent at 103; Tim Byram won 9‑0 at 112. Bill Henning tied at 127, Ray Boyd tied at 180, and Bill Spyrison tied at heavyweight.
