Swimmers Face Proviso Today

The Warrior mermen's average will be .600 as they meet Proviso West in their pool this afternoon at 4:15. This will be the last meet until school resumes in January.

In their meet against RB last Saturday the mermen collected only three firsts, causing the loss, 51‑35. The firsts were taken by Ken Fadden in the 100 free, Rod Clemens in the 100 back stroke, and Bill Allis in the 200 individual medley.

John took third in the 50 free behind two RB swimmers; Phil Wankat and Frank Jemison took second and third, respectively, in the 100 butterfly. Bob Olson and Adam Berg gathered four points for the Warriors by taking second and third in the 200 free, and Bruce Johns followed Clemens and an RB man in the 100 back stroke event.

Warrior Gary Coxon finished second behind probable state contender Schuler of RB in the 100 breast stroke, and was himself followed by Greg Hales. Lone varsity diver Jack Riddiough took second in his event, and Rod Clemens came through with three more points and a

second in the 200 individual medley. Both relays lost.

Two pool records have been broken thus far this season by West swimmers and their opponents. Coxon, the team's only returning letterman, broke the Maine East pool breast stroke record of 1:12.3 with a 1:11.2. Hinsdale's freestyler Walt Richardson broke the East pool record set by Jim Highland with a 53.0. Coxon's time has since been broken by Schuler when RB swam Maine East in the East pool.

The West swimmers have won over Notre Dame, Waukegan and East Leyden; and they have lost close contests against Hillsdale and RB. The Warriors smeared Waukegan by a score of 66‑19, and the greatest margin of loss was against RB.

High point man on the team is Ken Fadden, junior; he is closely followed by Coxon and Clemens.

All season the Warriors have been plagued by bad turns, slow starts, and slow exchanges in the relays.
