If you've ever been in the ward for the mentally ill and physically handicapped at Chicago State Hospital, you've probably noticed a fair-skinned, dark-haired girl with a pleasing smile and a vivacious personality.
No, she's not a patient there. She's Pep club president, Sue Raphael.
Sue, who is on the regular volunteer program at the hospital, relates that, "Working at the hospital is a really rewarding job. I think it helps a person become more mature and it gives you a new attitude toward yourself and other people."
Since her freshman year, Sue has belonged to Good Words club, Tri‑S, and Girl's club. This year she has been chosen to head the many activities of the over 350 Pep club members. These activities include selling sweatshirts, selling pom poms, sponsoring buses to away games, and, in general, promoting a spirit of enthusiasm throughout the school.

"The kids at the new school are a lot friendlier," stated Sue, and "they are doing a wonderful job of cheering at the games." However, she does wish "that more students would. take buses to the away games."
When asked what could be done to improve West, Sue emphatically replied that "more school participation in extra curricular activities is something that is definitely lacking."
A degree in occupational therapy from the University of Illinois is in the future for Sue, and she plans to restrict her work in this field to young children.
