Cindermen Open Season

Since the tack season officially opened on January 4, Maine West's track team has been practicing for their first meet against Austin High school of Chicago. This meet will take place Friday, January 29 at 7 p.m., in the Maine East fieldhouse. The frosh‑soph squad will travel to Oak Park on February 5 to meet with about four other schools.

For the past three weeks, the 75 boys out for track have been working hard to determine who will represent Maine West. An intra‑squad meet will be held January 22 for this purpose. Of those 75, there are 45 varsity and 30 frosh‑soph.

The varsity coaching staff consists of Mr. John Minerick, head coach, and Mr. Edwin Smith. Mr. Duane Leach and Mr. Dennis Snider are in charge of the frosh‑soph squad.

The coaches take an optimistic view of Maine West's chance for a successful season this year. Coach Minerick remarked, "The Warriors should do well this season. We have several good senior boys who are running well in practice and the juniors on the squad are surprisingly strong. We will be counting on them for a lot of places during the indoor and outdoor season."
