Maine West has become a proud parent in its own right! Peter Pyrros, a 13‑year old boy from Greece, has been adopted by the Student Council.
Pete, along with his mother and 17‑year old brother, Nikolaos, live in the village of Sykias on the island of Chios. His mother works in the school as a cleaning woman during the winter. Nikolaos is learning to be a seaman, following in the footsteps of his father who died when the sons were very small.
Just like most children his age, Pete likes to swim and play. He is very cheerful and has black hair and black eyes. Pete's

education has consisted of the elementary grades, but with the help of Student Council he may now have hopes of going to high school.
Maine West students are urged to write to him. He eagerly waits for a letter from his new foster parents. Even if it's just a note or card, he will appreciate knowing that there is someone thinking of him.
When writing, students are asked to put Maine West and the name of the foster child, Peter Pyrros, at the top of the letter. Letters may be given to the homeroom Student Council representatives or Trudy Johnson, Council treasurer.
