The seminar is an extra‑curricular, non‑credit activity. It serves as a place to exchange ideas, report on current research and developments in science, and work on specific research projects. The program offers an opportunity for the student to determine his special interests in time to plan his further education most profitably. It is felt that the student who successfully participates in the activities of the seminar program may gain a more advantageous position to qualify for awards, honors, and scholarships.
The seminar meets as a group once a week from 3:15 to 4 p.m. At this meeting a member leads a discussion centering around a scientific topic or reports on problems and progress of his own research project. Members have the use of the seminar facilities for projects and research the third and eighth periods daily and after school.
According to seminar director, Mr. Joseph Clouser, this new group of members will enable Maine West to launch a full scale seminar program for next year.
