Maine West's first variety show will be presented on March 17, 18, and 19. These were the new dates chosen after the previous plans for V‑show were abandoned.
The original theme of Music was dropped after the first few weeks due to lack of student participation. Now the show has been turned over to the students in its entirety. As yet there is no name for V‑show, but it is hoped that some title meaning 'a variety of all acts' will be chosen soon.
Tryouts were held January 18‑22. The final acts were judged on originality, performance, poise, movement, and coordination. All acts were selected by the V‑show staff consisting of Mrs. Eleanor Annen, drama and speech teacher; Mr. Ralph Caprio, stagecraft teacher; Margo Beck, choreographer; Norm Boyer, technical director; Dottie Hansen, student director; Don Pellett, art director; and Gerry Stanowicki, music director.
All the acts that were selected during the second tryouts were better prepared and included various ideas for their costuming and background sets. Many acts received help in music and choreography after school previous to the tryouts.

Some of the act captains chosen were Kathy Clayton, Gerry Dettman, Diane Disabato, Bill Graebner, Kay Lonsby, Pam Mack, Carole Pendergrass, Carole Perez, Carol Piper, Don Plautz, Sandy Zick, and a Junior leader gym class, representing the juniors. George House, Trudy Johnson, Nick Kelly, Sue Lightner, Marian Lundvall, Joyce Nilsson, Linda Roessing, Liz Stephenson, Dave Wedeking, and Sherri Whiting from the senior class, and a group called the Choraliers.
Act rehearsals will be called only once a week in accordance with the new schedule. This places outside responsibility on act captains.
"There are plenty of other jobs connected with V‑show," reminds Dottie Hansen, "and students are urged to come out and participate."
Everyone who attends the Variety show is promised a wonderful evening with acts ranging anywhere from calypso to scenes from Romeo and Juliet," relates Mrs. Annen.
Make‑up help and stage hands will be taken from the Stagecrafters club and ushers will be chosen later, according to Mr. Caprio.
