Register For 'J' Now!

Soon it will be time to register for next year's courses. This means that many choices have to be made by each student presently enrolled as a freshman, sophomore, or junior. Sophomores have a choice not open to other classes‑a chance to take journalism. This can lead to a position on the Westerner staff. You may feel that we, the staff, are prejudiced in presenting only this subject, but, after all, the paper needs a staff, and the preparation for this is English III‑J.

The course, to be taken during the junior year, is a full year, full credit English class which takes the place of English III. Journalism offers all the grammar and literature of a regular junior English subject, plus a fundamental knowledge of the field of high school newspaper publishing.

Without this course, students cannot become staff members of the Westerner.

Any student interested in getting a job on the staff may choose from such interests as writing, typing, making up pages or editing material and are able to get valuable experience in the journalistic field through this course.

The course is open to any sophomore making a B or A in his present English course. Students with a grade of C may enroll with the recommendation of their present English teacher.

If you are a sophomore and are interested in newspaper work, take Journalism. It's a lot of work to put out a paper, but it's very rewarding to see your name or your story in print, and to know you had a hand in something which circulates throughout your own school and, through exchanges, all over this country.
