28 Finalists Qualify For Math Exam

Twenty‑eight Maine West math students have qualified as finalists in the 1960 High School Mathematics contest. They were chosen on the basis of a test given to all higher math students. The finalists in order of their scores are:

Jim Edwards, Richard Hoglund, David Hopkins, Bill Wesley, John Saari, Craig Seitz, Robert Goeke, Bill Julitz, David Fouth, Harvey Rosen, Anne Kulik, Ken Cornelius, Joseph Mitchell, Bill Weaver, Phillip Wankat, Margo Beck, Don Plautz, Ed Stedman, Richard Williams, Ruth Gembicki, Robert Pawelko, Pat Maitland, Tom Kinder, Alex Dickenson, Allan Miller, Bob Olson, and Ron Longhurst.

These students will compete in an eighty minute test to be given on Thursday, March 10. Three winners will be chosen from each school. Their scores will be added together to represent the school, and all winning scores will be sent to the sectional contest. Maine West is eligible for a bronze cup and individual students for various awards.

The contest is jointly sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America and the Society of Actuaries.
