Gymnasts Succumb To Leyden, Niles

Trying to enter the win column, the Warrior gymnasts will travel to Thornton High Wednesday for their eleventh non-conference meet of the season. The squad will enter the meet with a showing of two wins against eight defeats.

Coach Sid Drain's aerialists lost to East Leyden and Niles last week in two very excitingly contested meets. East Leyden downed the Warriors 88 1/2 to 43 1/2 while Niles was a little more generous in defeating the gymnasts, 75 1/2-59 1/2.

Dick Sass, captain of the blue, gold, and white, took second in the parallel bar event and third in the high‑bar event against Leyden, while Bill Downing grabbed second in tumbling competition. In the Niles meet, Sass showed his great skill as he captured three firsts, one in high bar, another in parallel bar, and the third in the still rings. Downing again scored high in the tumbling, this time counting another first for West.

"The team is slowly shaping up," explained Coach Sid Drain, "and if we continue to work hard we'll surprise a few of the teams that we will meet in the future."
