Swimmers Now at 6‑3

Maine West's mermen won in their only meet last week, when they whipped the rugged Niles squad, 53 to 33. They were also scheduled to swim against Argo, but because of misunderstanding concerning the date, the meet was postponed indefinitely.

This victory against Niles gave the Warriors a 6 and 3 record for the season. This is a fine credit to the squad under the capable guidance of Coach Harold Baer. At the beginning of the year it looked as if a dismal future was in store for the swimmers, but the team has come through like true Warriors to sport this fine record.

Gary Coxon, a consistent point getter for the team, won the 50‑yard breaststroke event. Rodney Clemens was victorious in the 100‑yard backstroke. In the 50‑yard and 100‑yard freestyle matches, Ken Fadden and John Eastham, respectively, took first places for Maine West. The relay teams came out victorious in both of their races. Clemens, Coxon, Eastham, and Wankat swam for the relay team in the 200‑yard medley while Fadden, Johns, Hales, and Scott made up the team for the 200‑yard free‑style relay.

Other swimmers to gain points for Maine West were Alles, Jemison, Olson, and Riddiough.
